House approves resolution appointing Victoria Sterling Ashby as legislative general counsel

Under suspension of the rules, Representative Snyder moved SJR 2 to appoint Victoria Sterling Ashby as the legislature’s general counsel. Speaker Wilson introduced Ashby and praised her selection based on a rigorous selection process and her experience with the Office of Legislative General Counsel.

"There's no other position in government, as an attorney, that is both as difficult as this, but also as influential," Speaker Wilson said, commending Ashby’s work ethic and collaborative approach.

Representative Kristofferson and others offered support on the floor. The House recorded 70 yes votes and 0 no votes for SJR 2; the resolution will be signed by the speaker and transmitted to the Senate for consideration.

Next step: The resolution will be forwarded to the Senate for its consideration.
