The Utah Senate on Nov. 15 consented to Governor Spencer J. Cox's appointment of Ryan Peters as a judge of the Fourth District Juvenile Court. President J. Stewart Adams announced the result after a roll call: "With 24 yay votes, 0 nay votes, 5 being absent, the senate has consented to the appointment of Ryan Peters as judge of the fourth district juvenile court."
The confirmation followed a unanimous favorable recommendation from the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee. Senator Todd Wyler, who reported the committee's recommendation, said the committee was "very impressed with his background," citing Peters' experience as a county attorney as relevant to juvenile court service.
Judge Peters addressed the Senate after confirmation, introducing family members in the gallery and calling the confirmation "a humbling experience." He thanked Governor Cox, Lieutenant Governor Deidre M. Henderson and the Fourth District judicial nominating commission for their support and said he looked forward to serving the community and state.
The confirmation occurred during the fifth extraordinary session convened at the Utah State Capitol to consider advice-and-consent appointments transmitted by the governor. The Senate then resolved into a Committee of the Whole so the newly confirmed judge could address members, and later dissolved the committee and returned to regular session.
