Utah Senate consents to a slate of gubernatorial appointments; reappointment of Kip Cashmore passes after separate roll call

During its Nov. 15 extraordinary session, the Utah Senate consented to a package of appointments transmitted by Governor Spencer J. Cox to multiple state boards and commissions, then held a separate roll call on one contested reappointment.

Senator Hinkins moved that the Senate vote to consent to the appointments as read by the Senate staff. After the omnibus roll call (excluding one divided nominee), President J. Stewart Adams announced, "With a vote of 25 yay votes, 0 nay votes, 4 being absent, the senate has consented to the appointments from the governor." The appointments listed included reappointments and new appointments to the Board of State History, the Board of Financial Institutions, the Utah State University Board of Trustees, the Great Salt Lake Advisory Council, the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District Board of Trustees, the State Money Management Council and the Utah Housing Corporation board of trustees, among others.

Senator Escamilla requested a division on the reappointment of Kip Cashmore to the Board of Financial Institutions, which the presiding officer granted. During the separate roll call, Senator Curtis S. Bramble explained his opposing vote, saying he had heard "some concerns about Mr. Cashmore" and claiming the sources of the concern were "all agendas against the Bay Area Heavy Industry." After the roll call the presiding officer announced the reappointment passed: 21 yes, 4 no, 4 absent.

The Senate recognized several appointees in the chamber after the votes and congratulated them. No additional conditions or amendments to the appointments were recorded in the transcript.
