Senate welcomes Australia's Consul General and honors families of fallen Utah first responders

The Utah Senate paused legislative business Feb. 3, 2022, to welcome the Hon. Jane Duke, Consul General of Australia (Los Angeles), who was introduced by the chair of international trade relations. Senators noted Australia's trade ties with Utah and local companies that do business with Australian firms.

Later the chamber recognized families of fallen first responders. Senator Ipsen asked the reading clerk to read a citation honoring the service and sacrifice of officers and firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The clerk read a formal citation that named several individuals and expressed sympathy to families; senators observed a moment of silence and publicly thanked the visitors for their service and sacrifice.

These ceremonial recognitions took place alongside the Senate's legislative business and concluded before the body returned to the second- and third-reading calendars.
