Utah Senate honors Highway Patrol with official citation

On Feb. 14 the Utah Senate presented an official legislative citation honoring the Utah Highway Patrol for their service protecting the Capitol Complex and responding to critical incidents across the state. Senators and Senate leadership recognized troopers who stood guard during past disturbances and noted their everyday work keeping highways safe.

Senator Ibsen introduced the recognition and invited troopers onto the chamber floor. A reading clerk read the citation text in full, which thanked troopers for their dedication, described their role during the May 30, 2020 response to Capitol protests, and commended their work during the COVID‑19 pandemic. Commissioner Jess Anderson and other troopers were acknowledged and presented with the citation.

Senators offered personal expressions of gratitude. Senator Ibsen said, "This is an awesome sight," while other senators recounted ride‑along experiences and the troopers’ professionalism. Senator Bramble highlighted instances where troopers provided protectory detail and support for legislators and staff.

The Senate invited troopers to a photo on the South Capitol steps later in the afternoon and adjourned following the recognition and remaining floor business.
