Senate approves appropriations adjustments, sends bill to House

The Utah Senate on a special-session floor vote approved Senate Bill 1,001, a package of appropriations increases and decreases that includes federal American Rescue Plan Act funds and technical corrections for fiscal years 2021 and 2022.

Senator Ipsen, who introduced the measure, said the bill "provides budget increases and decreases for the use and support of certain state agencies and public education programs and institutions of higher education," and that it also "appropriates federal funds associated with the American Rescue Plan Act" and makes technical corrections carried over from the earlier 2021 special session. He told colleagues he was open for questions but moved to waive summation and call the question.

Under suspension of the rules the Senate proceeded to a roll call. The presiding officer announced that Senate Bill 1,001 received 23 yay votes, one nay and five absent, and that it will be sent to the House for further consideration.

The bill was brought up under suspension of the rules, and senators did not identify additional amendments on the floor. The Senate president instructed that the bill be transmitted to the House and returned for the speaker's signature after the president signs it.
