The Arlington ISD Board of Trustees used its June 5 meeting to recognize students, staff and community partners.
The board invited rising senior Fred Threets Jr. of Lamar High School to lead the pledges and highlighted his leadership roles; Dr. T.J. Jarko and SLAB officers recognized outgoing members and introduced the incoming leadership team. "Fred is a rising senior at Lamar High School," Dr. Jarko said, noting SLAB's Leader in Me training and the group's advocacy and expansion to include Venture High School.
The board also presented the Community Partner Award to River Legacy Foundation. Executive Director Shannon Porter accepted the award, thanking the district and volunteer partners for years of collaboration. Aaron Perales described River Legacy's history and programs, noting partnerships that bring outdoor education and habitat projects to AISD students.
District leaders announced principals and assistant principals of the year across elementary and secondary campuses and named leadership awards and rookies of the year. Winners included Karen Hicks (Sherrod Elementary, elementary principal of the year) and Lucy Serna (Crouch Elementary, elementary assistant principal of the year). The board applauded campus leaders and the Office of School Leadership for the selection process.
Chief Operations Officer Dr. Michael Hill and Athletic Director Eric White recognized UIL state medalists and presented state patches. Several student‑athletes were honored across high schools; some were represented by family because they were competing elsewhere.
The recognitions took place early in the meeting and were followed by a short recess for photos and a reception.
