Board reviews open-space projects and Hirschfield Park phases; resident praises local renovator

At the Oct. 22 meeting the Pompton Lakes Zoning Board of Adjustment heard updates about open-space projects and a multi-phase redesign of Hirschfield Park and received public comment praising local renovation work.

A council-affiliated speaker described plans to approach the council with several open-space projects, then outlined a three-phase plan for Hirschfield Park: new restrooms and an accessible central building, new playground and exercise equipment and accessible pathways timed to a county bridge replacement. "We're redoing Hirschfield Park in 3 phases... We'll use pathways for seniors," the speaker said, adding that the county's bridge replacement could occur next spring.

During the public-comment period, resident Ingrid Snow spoke in support of a property-owner she referred to as "Musa," saying he revitalized multiple properties, beautified a corner house and helped local businesses. "He took a dumpy house... and made that to he modified that and made it absolutely beautiful," Snow said, urging the board to recognize neighborhood improvements. The board confirmed the comment will be reflected in the minutes and noted the carried Lenox Avenue item will appear on next month's agenda for further public input.

The board also approved resolution BOA24-05 (Kurt and Louise Decker) during the meeting and adjourned after routine closing motions.
