Essex County commissioners honored Dr. Angelica McMillan on her retirement from the New Jersey Department of Education and presented a proclamation recognizing her years of service.
Commissioner Len Luciano opened the tribute, introducing McMillan as “recently retired as the acting commissioner of education for the New Jersey Department of Education” and detailing her career in Essex County schools and in state education leadership. In brief remarks, McMillan said it was “such an honor for me to stand before you in Essex County, where I call home,” and thanked commissioners for supporting her career and the county’s education community.
The board also recognized the Ironbound Soccer Club 2007 Raiders, who won a youth national championship in Tampa. Commissioner Patricia Seibold noted the club’s record and community role; John Suarez, Ironbound’s director of operations, thanked the commissioners and highlighted the county’s role in improving park facilities that helped the program grow. Suarez said the club is a program of the Salvation Army Ironbound Boys and Girls Club and credited county partnerships for improving local fields.
The recognition combined ceremonial remarks with short personal tributes from commissioners and a brief photo opportunity. No formal actions or votes were required for the presentations.
The county framed the presentations as celebrating local public servants and community organizations and noted continued opportunities for McMillan to remain engaged in Essex County education.
