The Prineville City Council approved a request from the Crook County Historical Society to provide grounds maintenance support of $4,500 per year for five years, covering landscaping around the museum and the caboose area.
Finance Director Laurie Hooper told council the society submitted a request for $4,500 annually for five years and that the city's general fund miscellaneous council expenditures line currently has roughly $18,000 remaining for the biennium and could be used for the award. Councilors asked for details about what the funds would cover; Hooper said the request covers grounds and caboose-area landscaping and maintenance.
One councilor (speaker 1) expressed concern that families who had sponsored construction or named elements associated with the Belknap project might be expected to support ongoing maintenance and questioned why the city was being asked to fund the work. Councilor (speaker 7) said the project benefits the community and moved to commit to five years of support; another councilor seconded the motion and the council voted in favor with no recorded opposition.
Laurie Hooper thanked the council; the staff will coordinate with the Crook County Historical Society on the scope and implementation of the maintenance support.
