Commission on Ethics prioritizes outreach and consistency in initial strategic plan discussion

At its meeting, the Nevada Commission on Ethics identified education and outreach, consistency in written decisions and staffing as the principal priorities for an initial strategic plan.

Executive Director Armstrong reviewed a SWOT-based survey of commissioners and staff and asked the board to select two to three strategic priorities and definitions of success. Commissioners converged on outreach and education, improving public perception and respect for the commission’s decisions through clearer written opinions, and making persistent staffing and compensation improvements to match workload growth.

Vice Chair Teller and Commissioner Lowry emphasized outreach and the need to boost respect for commission decisions; Commissioner Olson and Commissioner Shear urged consistency and adherence to statutory authority. Outreach and Education Officer Harvey asked commissioners to champion the commission on social media and through professional networks, offering to provide specific content for reposting. The commission directed the executive director to draft a strategic plan informed by today’s discussion and return with a draft for final approval at the June meeting.
