Rules Committee recommends Jason Wright to Historic Preservation Commission

The Rules Committee on Monday recommended the mayor’s nomination of Jason Wright to the San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission for a term ending Dec. 31, 2024.

Jason Wright told the committee he studied architecture and historic preservation at the University of Cincinnati and has about 18 years of preservation experience, including volunteer work with San Francisco Heritage and the Presidio Historical Association. He said his technical background in material conservation and experience with historic‑structure reports will inform his work on city landmark and district reviews, and he emphasized preservation’s sustainability angle.

"I’ve learned that preservation is inherently sustainable," Wright said, describing preservation and retention of existing buildings as a climate‑mitigation strategy.

Public commenters and former commissioners voiced support for Wright. Aaron Hyland, a former Historic Preservation commissioner who spoke in favor of the nominee, noted Wright’s long involvement in local preservation efforts and his leadership with the Young Preservation Group.

Supervisor Rafael Mandelmann moved to amend the short title language and to forward the nomination with the committee’s recommendation; the motion passed unanimously. The nomination will proceed to the full Board on July 20 for final confirmation; if confirmed the appointee may attend his first commission meeting the week following final action.
