The Rules Committee on Sept. 27 recommended several appointments and seat assignments across municipal advisory boards and commissions.
On Assessment Appeals Board No. 1, five applicants — Scott Spertsle, John Cowper (Quayper), Elizabeth Zera, Christine Nelson and Paul Beller — introduced themselves and summarized qualifications in accounting, appraisal and law. Chair Aaron Peskin proposed specific seat assignments; the committee approved the recommendations by roll call and will forward them to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
For Assessment Appeals Board No. 2, Luis Mendoza (seeking reappointment) and Mark Wilson (applying for a seat) described decades of experience in real estate and property management. The committee voted to reappoint Mendoza to seat 1 and appoint Wilson to a permanent seat and will forward the recommendation to the Board.
On the Ballot Simplification Committee, Scott Patterson and Anne Merrill spoke to clarity and voter access; Betty Packard was absent but previously nominated. Public commenters, including representatives of the League of Women Voters, supported the appointments and urged openness to public input in drafting digest language. The committee voted to forward Patterson, Packard and Merrill with a positive recommendation to the full Board.
All motions to recommend these appointments passed by roll call with Supervisors Chan, Mandelmann and Peskin recorded as "aye." The meeting then adjourned.
