Rules Committee forwards Jesus Gabriel Yanez for Police Commission seat

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on Dec. 13 voted to forward Jesus Gabriel Yanez as a committee report for appointment to a Police Commission seat whose term runs through April 3, 2025.

Chair Aaron Peskin opened the item by noting that five applicants were originally in contention and one withdrew before last weeks hearing. "We heard from the 4 applicants," Peskin said, and the committee had "letters of support, particularly for Jesus Yanez, but as well as for David Ryzick." He told colleagues the committee was "particularly impressed by 2 of those applicants" and invited public comment before moving forward.

After operations reported no callers in the public-comment queue and the clerk confirmed that one applicant (Miss Fembres) had withdrawn, Supervisor Chan made the motion to advance a nomination. "I would like to make the motion to appoint, Jesus Gabriel Yanez, to c 3, on the police commission," Chan said. The committee conducted a roll call and recorded affirmative votes; the motion passed without objection.

The committee record shows no public speakers on the item and indicates the nomination will be sent forward as a committee report to the full Board of Supervisors for final consideration. Chair Peskin thanked all applicants for applying and noted additional upcoming openings on the Police Commission in the new year.

What happens next: The committees positive recommendation will be included in the Board file and transmitted to the full Board of Supervisors for further consideration and final action.
