Rules Committee backs mayoral nominee Alex Ledlum for Successor Agency Commission

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ Rules Committee voted unanimously March 7 to send Mayor London Breed’s nomination of Alex Ledlum to the Successor Agency Commission to the full Board with a positive recommendation.

Chair Aaron Peskin said the commission is charged with winding down the city’s former redevelopment agency’s affairs and overseeing several ongoing projects; the nomination is a short-term appointment through Nov. 3, 2022, which Peskin said will require reconsideration later this year. ‘‘This commission…will ultimately have say over the vast majority of affordable housing to be built in this town over the next 10 or 20 years,’’ Ledlum said during his remarks to the committee.

Ledlum described his background in housing and work with community groups, including service on the SoMa West Community Benefit District board. Two callers from the public testified in support. Alan Lowe said he had worked with Ledlum on the United Players transaction and ‘‘strongly recommend[s] Alex’’ for the position. Christian Martin, executive director of the SoMa West Community Benefit District, said Ledlum ‘‘has been instrumental in getting us off the ground’’ and praised his knowledge of zoning and planning.

Chair Peskin moved to send the nomination to the full Board with a positive recommendation and proposed minor language edits to avoid ambiguity; the committee approved the motion as amended by roll call: Supervisor Connie Chan — Aye; Vice Chair Rafael Mandelmann — Aye; Chair Aaron Peskin — Aye. Clerk Victor Young said items acted on at today’s meeting are expected to appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on March 15, 2022.

The nomination now goes to the full Board, where it will be considered at the next Board meeting.
