The Rules Committee on Jan. 30 handled several appointment items and housekeeping amendments, approving committee recommendations for appointments to outside boards and commissions and making a substitution on one item.
Clerk Victor Young read items 3'6, which included motions to appoint Supervisor Joel Angardio to the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District Board (term ending Jan. 31, 2025), appoint an alternate to the California State Association of Counties, appoint Supervisor Hillary Ronan as an alternate to the Association of Bay Area Governments Executive Board (term listed in the file), and appoint Supervisor Dean Preston to the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo). Chair Peskin moved minor amendments to conform dates and to convert an alternate seat into a regular seat for one appointment. The committee approved those amendments by roll call without objection.
Chair Peskin then sought to substitute Supervisor Myrna Melgar for Supervisor Hillary Ronan on item 5 and continue that item to the next Rules Committee meeting; the committee approved the substitution and continuance and later voted to send items 3, 4 and 6 as committee reports and to send item 5 as a committee report once continued and re-noticed. Public commenter David Pilpel questioned the urgency of the Bridge District appointment and recommended clarifications in filing and record-keeping.
What happens next: Items recommended as committee reports will be placed on the Board of Supervisors agenda for the next meeting for final action or confirmation.
