Rules Committee forwards Vanessa Aquino nomination for successor-agency commission

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee voted unanimously April 24 to forward Mayor's nominee Vanessa Aquino to the full Board for appointment to the Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure, also called the successor agency commission.

Aquino, a Dogpatch resident for 20 years, told the committee she has led community improvement efforts including the Dogpatch Block Party and work to beautify Angel Alley. She said she would prioritize small, local businesses, local contracting and hiring, and neighborhood preference for affordable housing projects that come before the commission.

Vice Chair Shimon Walton and Chair Supervisor Matt Dorsey both praised Aquino's community ties and outreach experience. Dorsey offered to connect Aquino with staff and neighborhood resources.

No members of the public spoke on Item 1. Chair Dorsey moved to "strike the word 'reject'" from the pending motion and to send Aquino's appointment to the full Board with a positive recommendation. A roll call recorded Walton, Asha Safae and Dorsey voting aye; the motion passed without objection.

The nomination will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda for possible final action on May 2, 2023. Aquino's appointment, if confirmed, carries a term ending Nov. 3, 2024.
