Committee recommends board approve BIN415’s wine-license transfer at Fairmont Hotel

The Public Safety & Neighborhood Services Committee on March 24 recommended that the full Board of Supervisors approve a Type 42 on‑sale beer and wine public premises license for BIN415 LLC at 950 Mason Street inside the Fairmont Hotel. Chair Supervisor Gordon Marr moved that the clerk prepare a resolution finding the transfer will serve the public convenience and necessity, and the committee voted to forward a positive recommendation.

Officer Salmonson of the SFPD ABC liaison unit told the committee the applicant had zero letters of protest or support, that the location sits in a census tract identified as "high saturation" and a Plot 148 area considered high‑crime, and that the ABC liaison recommended approval with no new conditions. Applicant representative Michael Legau described the planned operation as sommelier‑led wine education and guided tastings for visitors, not a bar environment.

The clerk opened the item for public comment but no callers or in‑person speakers were heard. With Supervisor Peskin noted as supportive, Chair Marr made the motion to transmit a resolution with a positive recommendation to the full Board. A roll call recorded two ayes and one absence, and the committee sent the recommendation forward.

The committee’s action is advisory; the full Board of Supervisors will consider the formal resolution on its agenda. No appeal, protest letters, or new conditions were recorded during the committee hearing.
