Committee recommends resolution supporting Dad & Sons Market liquor license after ALU approval

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee on April 14 recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution finding that an off‑sale general beer, wine and distilled spirits (Type 21) license for Dad & Sons Market at 3218 Fillmore Street would serve the public convenience and necessity and forwarded the matter to the full Board with a positive recommendation.

Lillick Adamaso, the applicant's liquor license representative, told the committee the market is a roughly 1,300‑square‑foot neighborhood grocery operating about 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily and said alcohol sales would be a small portion of revenue: "...will be less than 15% of their total sales," Adamaso said. He described security measures including a fixed video surveillance system and employee‑only spirits storage behind the counter, and said the store expects to employ at least two residents.

Alcohol Liaison Unit Officer Sammonson summarized the unit's review: ten letters of protest were received, the applicant collected 187 petition signatures in support, the premise lies in Plot 509 (identified as high crime) and Census Tract 12902 (a high saturation area), and Northern Station reported no opposition. ALU recommended approval with conditions including active monitoring to prevent loitering around adjacent properties as depicted on the ABC‑253 form.

With no public commenters in the room or on the remote line, Chair Marr moved to direct the clerk to prepare the resolution and send it forward with a positive recommendation. The clerk recorded the vote: Supervisor Haney absent; Vice Chair Stephanie and Chair Marr recorded aye votes and the motion passed without objection. The resolution will be prepared for the Board of Supervisors.

Committee discussion acknowledged both letters of protest and a larger number of supporters; supervisors noted constituent outreach and offered support to the new neighborhood business while emphasizing readiness to assist if operational issues arise.
