Supervisors continue ordinance to require station‑level community policing plans to May 12

SAN FRANCISCO — The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee on April 28 moved to continue consideration of an ordinance that would require the San Francisco Police Department to develop Community Policing Plans (CPPs) at each district station.

Chair Supervisor Gordon Marr said the ordinance would require each district to incorporate strategies such as foot and bike patrols, a community process for input, and annual public posting and updates. Marr said he had been working with the department on amendments that were not yet ready and therefore moved to continue the item to the committee’s May 12 meeting.

The clerk introduced the ordinance and described public comment procedures; no public testimony was taken on the item before it was continued. The motion to continue was seconded and passed unanimously.

Why it matters: The proposed ordinance aims to formalize station‑level policing plans developed with merchant associations, neighborhood groups and community‑based organizations to improve local engagement and proactive community policing. The committee will return to the item on May 12 with proposed amendments and additional discussion.
