Rules Committee approves Sanitation and Streets appointment, forwards other motions to full Board

At the May 6 Rules Committee meeting, supervisors approved a set of procedural actions and appointments taken from the committee agenda.

The committee recommended the appointment of an applicant introduced as Thomas Richard Herron to the Sanitation and Streets Commission (one seat, term ending 07/01/2028). Chair Hillary Ronan moved to send the nomination to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the motion passed with Vice Chair Shimon Walton and Chair Ronan voting aye and Supervisor Asha Safai recorded as absent.

Later in the agenda, the clerk read item 1 (a motion relating to an appointment of Supervisor Hillary Ronan to a local agency position, term ending 02/04/2027). Supervisor Walton moved to excuse Chair Ronan for that item and then moved to recommend the matter as a committee report; the motion passed with Ronan excused from the vote.

All three committee motions related to items on the agenda (the Sanitation and Streets appointment; action on item 1; and committee action on items 3 and 4 described in the language access discussion) passed without objection among members present. The clerk will forward committee recommendations to the full Board for final action.

Note on transcript inconsistency: during the appointment discussion the applicant was introduced as "Thomas Richard Herron" (SEG 053) but later the clerk and motion language refer to "Thomas Harrison" (SEG 093). The committee record should be checked against the official clerk's file to confirm the nominee's correct legal name before the full Board vote.
