The committee reviewed an ordinance to designate 447 Battery Street — the former Jones Thierbach Coffee Company building — as a San Francisco landmark. Planning staff described the building’s 1907 construction and its historic association with coffee roasting and wholesale activity. The Historic Preservation Commission previously recommended designation with modifications.
Presenter Pilar LaValley described the Commission’s 5–1 vote recommending designation under National Register criteria for events (association with the coffee industry and post‑1906 reconstruction). Supervisor Aaron Peskin offered a small housekeeping amendment to reference the HPC resolution; the committee approved the amendment and then voted to forward the amended recommendation to the Board.
The measure will be considered by the full Board of Supervisors on the normal legislative schedule.
