The Land Use and Transportation Committee voted Feb. 14 to send a resolution recommending the commemorative name Sister Vishnu Way for Allard Alley to the full Board of Supervisors.
Sponsor Supervisor Mandelmann described Sister Vishnu (legal name Ken Bunch) as a co‑founder of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and recounted the group’s history and community service, including early fundraisers and advocacy for LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS causes. ‘‘Sister Vishnu and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have been fierce activists and fundraisers of millions of dollars for queer and transgender rights,’’ Mandelmann said.
Speakers from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and advocates called in during public comment to support the resolution and to describe Sister Vishnu’s decades of activism and leadership. The committee approved sending the resolution to the Board as a committee report by unanimous vote.
