An item to rezone RH1D districts to a new RH2D class and authorize a density exception allowing up to four dwelling units per lot was continued to April 11 after sponsors and members asked for more time to negotiate amendments.
Jacob Bintliff, speaking on behalf of Supervisor Mandelman, said conversations with other supervisors are ongoing and requested a short continuance so amendments can be circulated. Vice Chair Dean Preston acknowledged ongoing talks and raised two issues he wanted emphasized as amendments are drafted: protections against incentivizing large‑scale demolition, and a possible "look‑back" ownership requirement that would limit eligibility for density bonuses to owners who have held property for a specified period to reduce speculative redevelopment.
Public callers including members of housing and equity coalitions supported a continuance to allow review of amendments. Chair Melgar moved to continue the item to April 11; the committee voted 3‑0 in favor. The continuance provides time for sponsors, the city attorney and planning staff to refine amendment language and for additional stakeholder review.
