Committee forwards planning‑code amendments on adult venues to full board

An ordinance to amend the San Francisco planning code to define and regulate adult entertainment venues advanced out of committee with a positive recommendation on April 25.

Sponsor Supervisor Rafael Mandelman presented the ordinance and the committee heard no public speakers on the item. Vice Chair Dean Preston moved to forward the measure to the full Board with a positive recommendation and the committee voted unanimously (Preston, Peskin and Chair Mirana Melgar voting 'aye').

The ordinance would define an "adult venue" and specify whether such uses are principally permitted, conditionally permitted or prohibited in several commercial and mixed‑use zoning districts; it would also prohibit adult businesses in the Chinatown Community Benefit District. Committee members and staff did not amend the ordinance at the hearing.

What happens next: the item will be scheduled before the full Board of Supervisors; committee staff said the Board packet will include the ordinance text and any memos received during committee review.
