Committee approves sending flex-pricing resolution for Music Concourse garage and Discover & Go parking to full Board

The committee forwarded a resolution to the full Board authorizing the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) to set flexible rates at the Golden Gate Park Music Concourse garage and the Kezar/Keyesers lot and authorizing Recreation & Park to amend its lease with the Music Concourse Community Partnership (MCCP) to pay for three hours of free parking on behalf of Discover & Go participants at the California Academy of Sciences and the DeYoung Museum.

Sarah Madland of the Recreation and Parks Department said the resolution is a follow-up to prior flex-pricing legislation and describes the methodology, upper and lower bounds, and policy objectives under consideration. Rob Malone of SFMTA described the agency’s monthly parking policy and noted the Music Concourse garage has roughly 25 monthly parkers out of a facility with over 800 stalls; SFMTA sometimes caps monthly permits at busy garages to preserve transient availability.

Madland said the MCCP board must approve any lease changes; Rec & Park and SFMTA have been coordinating and expect to present final terms after MCCP review (MCCP board expected to meet later in the year). Remote public comment raised questions about whether the item should await November ballot results affecting Golden Gate Park and asked for a specific rate schedule rather than ranges. Chair Melgar moved to forward the resolution to the full Board and the committee voted to send it with a positive recommendation.
