The committee voted to forward a resolution commemorating Randall Klein by adding a ceremonial name to the 200 block of Linden Alley in recognition of Klein’s four decades of leadership at SF Jazz.
President Aaron Peskin described Klein’s founding of the SF Jazz festival and the development of the SF Jazz Center, noting the organization’s education programs and the Center’s role as a distinctive cultural institution. SF Jazz CEO Greg Stern and patron Rick Swig testified in support. One Linden business owner said a commemorative name could affect local signage and business branding; Peskin and other supervisors clarified the proposal is only a commemorative designation under public-works code section 7.89 and will not change official addresses.
The committee forwarded the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation for a hearing before the Board; the proposed celebration was noted for May.
Next steps: The item moves to the full Board for formal consideration and scheduling of a ceremonial recognition.
