Committee endorses renaming 1321 Mission Street supportive housing for Margo Antonetti

The Government Audit & Oversight Committee voted Oct. 6 to send to the full Board an ordinance to name the permanent supportive housing development at 1321 Mission Street in memory of Margo Antonetti, who died May 26, 2020.

Supervisor Rafael Mandelmann, sponsor of the ordinance, said Antonetti spent three decades in the nonprofit and public sectors helping create supportive housing and shaping city policy on HIV, mental health services, harm reduction and supportive housing. Lauren Hall, executive director of DISH, and Sherilyn Adams of Larkin Street Youth Services spoke at the committee and described Antonetti's role in establishing low‑barrier supportive housing and her personal commitment to clients.

Presenters said 1321 Mission (referred to in the presentation as "the Margo") includes about 120 studio units and 39 family units, modern amenities and a roof deck. Lauren Hall noted an art installation by Sebastian Roldan at the site intended as a public tribute.

No public speakers registered. The committee voted 3‑0 to forward the ordinance with a positive recommendation.

The matter will proceed to the full Board; presenters and community partners expect the name to serve as a lasting tribute to Antonetti's work on housing and public health.
