The Government Audit and Oversight Committee on Nov. 16 forwarded items 3 through 16 to the Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation. The clerk described the closed-session agenda as composed of five ordinances and nine resolutions authorizing and approving various settlements of lawsuits and unmitigated claims, with amounts referenced in the agenda.
Chair Dean Preston told colleagues he had been briefed by the City Attorney’s office (Deputy City Attorney Anne Pearson was thanked for the briefing) and that he did not see a need to convene in closed session before voting. "I'm satisfied based on the information that I have received from the city attorney's office in advance of the hearing regarding these settlements to approve them without a closed session," Preston said.
Following a brief call for public comment (none were offered), the committee voted 3–0 — Vice Chair Stephanie, Supervisor Chan and Chair Preston recorded aye votes — to forward the items to the full Board with a positive recommendation. The committee clerk earlier noted items acted upon that day are expected to appear on the Board agenda of Nov. 28 unless otherwise stated.
The forwarded items include ordinances and resolutions authorizing settlements; the committee did not take additional public testimony on the settlements and will leave detailed review and any final approvals to the full Board.
