Committee backs HSH application to HUD for $59.3 million Continuum of Care competition

The Budget and Finance Committee on Nov. 3 voted to forward to the full Board a resolution authorizing the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) to apply for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's 2021 Continuum of Care competition, with a not-to-exceed grant amount of $59.3 million.

Emily Cohen, deputy director at HSH, said the majority of the funds would support existing projects (leasing permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, rental assistance) and that $5 million of the requested amount was designated as bonus funding for new projects, including $2.4 million for programs for survivors of domestic violence. She said the department worked with the local Homeless Coordinating Board and a rank-and-review panel to prioritize projects and noted the HUD application deadline of Nov. 16.

There was no public comment on the item; the committee voted to forward the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation (3 ayes).

Outcome: the item is scheduled to appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda for Nov. 9 unless otherwise stated.
