Committee forwards $300,000 Blue Shield grant to the full Board to fund domestic-violence prevention collaborative

The Budget and Finance Committee on Nov. 3 voted to forward to the full Board a retroactive resolution allowing the Department on the Status of Women to accept and expend a two-year $300,000 grant from the Blue Shield of California Foundation.

Elise Hansel of the department said the funding, under the Leveraging Collaboration to End Domestic Violence program, will support a multi-sector collaborative, youth focus groups that developed a healthy-relationships curriculum and a grant-funded 1.0182 FTE coordination position. The department said it was invited to apply for continuation funding after an earlier award and that the resolution is retroactive to allow timely acceptance of the extension.

Outcome: the committee forwarded the resolution with a positive recommendation (3 ayes).
