Committee approves amended SIP‑hotel extension for Americania and forwards to Board

The Human Services Agency asked the committee to approve a third amendment to an emergency agreement with SF Americania LLC to continue the city's use of 143 rooms at the Americania as Shelter In Place (SIP) hotel rooms. HSA submitted a late amendment to align the resolution with the mayor's 45th emergency supplement and to authorize extension through Aug. 31, 2022, with any further extension contingent on Board ordinance.

HSA representative (Mr. Kaplan) read the substance of the amendment into the record and clarified that the total funding in the resolution remains approximately $16,430,164 though the amendment revises the booking term to conform with the emergency declaration. Nick Bernard of the Budget Legislative Analyst's office noted the BLA had not yet seen the new revision but reviewed the version on the table (which increased the agreement from $9.7 million to $16.4 million and raised contingency from 15% to 25% to address restoration costs). The contingency documentation appeared reasonable, the BLA said.

The committee voted to accept HSA's amendment and to forward the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation. The committee and HSA noted any extension beyond Aug. 31 would require further Board ordinance action.
