Committee approves increases to three citywide industrial and electrical supply contracts

The Office of Contract Administration asked the Budget & Finance Committee to approve amendments to three citywide catalog contracts used by multiple departments. OCA Director Selah Jacarella said rising expenditures driven by inflation and increased usage have left current contract balances insufficient.

The requested changes include raising the MSC Industrial Supply contract NTE to approximately $15.177 million, increasing the W.W. Grainger contract NTE to about $20.9 million with a one‑year term extension to Dec. 31, 2023, and increasing the Bucklesmith Electric contract NTE to roughly $16.946 million. BLA reviewed recent spend and supported approval while recommending a $700,000 reduction to Granger’s proposed contingency; OCA accepted that recommendation.

Supervisor questions focused on inventory tracking and controls for widely used supplies; OCA said departments must track capitalized assets and departments use various systems for inventory and maintenance agreements. Supervisor Chan urged stronger coordination with the Controller’s office and a more consistent, citywide asset‑tracking approach.

The committee accepted the BLA amendment and forwarded the items to the full Board unanimously.

What’s next: The Board will consider the contract amendments; departments and OCA will continue coordination with the Controller regarding asset and inventory tracking.
