On May 25 the Budget & Appropriations Committee forwarded to the full Board a resolution concurring with the Controller's annual Prop J certification that a set of services can be more cost-effectively provided by private contractors than by city employees.
Risa Sandler of the Controller's Office said the resolution includes 13 Prop J analyses covering services for the airport, the Municipal Transportation Agency, the Port and SFPUC. "The item before you is an annual resolution that speaks to services that are contracted out and which our office has done an analysis to determine that it's less expensive for it to be contracted than to be provided by city staff," Sandler said.
Mark Gleeson of Teamsters Local 665 told the committee the union historically supports this resolution and will continue to work with city departments on those services. The committee recorded the forwarding vote (4 ayes with one member absent where noted) and moved the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
