Commission approves Domino's at 728 Geary to reactivate long-vacant storefront

San Francisco ' The Planning Commission approved a conditional-use authorization on July 14 that allows a Domino's franchisee to occupy a vacant storefront at 728 Geary Street, replacing a former Pizza Hut location and aiming to reactivate a long-vacant block face.

Planning staff noted the site is within a Lower Nob Hill commercial block with high vacancy rates and said the proposal would not alter the building exterior aside from signage. "Approval of the project will fill a space which is currently vacant, which will help to activate adjacent sidewalks," staff said.

Sponsor representatives said the new store would focus on pedestrian and delivery customers and would have employee parking and immediate access to transit. Chloe Angeles, speaking for the franchisee, said the space has been vacant since 2020 and that adding foot traffic would improve safety and activation.

The commission voted 7-0 to approve the project with standard conditions attached for formula retail and signage.
