Board honors Esther Casco after nearly five decades of service to SFUSD

The San Francisco Board of Education honored Esther Casco on Oct. 12 with a formal resolution recognizing her almost 49 years of service to the district and 40 years as Executive Assistant to the Board.

Superintendent Vincent Matthews read the resolution outlining Casco’s tenure, promotions and the role she played supporting board members and facilitating meetings. Speakers from across the district — current and former board members, parents, staff and students — offered personal tributes, describing Casco as a steadying institutional presence who helped people navigate board procedures and supported families and advocates.

Casco responded to the tribute by thanking board members, staff and former colleagues and acknowledging the long history of service. The board adopted the resolution by roll call later in the meeting and presented flowers and a commemorative book signed by district employees.

The board paused regular business to allow public comment on the resolution; dozens of callers shared memories and appreciation. President Lopez and multiple commissioners expressed their gratitude and best wishes for Casco’s retirement. The resolution declares Oct. 13, 2021, 'Esther Casco Day' in SFUSD.
