Student leaders with Young Asian Women Against Violence presented a districtwide sexual‑harassment and assault resource toolkit to the San Francisco Board of Education on Feb. 22, urging the board to adopt a permanent, accessible resource for students.
Jenny Lee, program coordinator for Young Asian Women Against Violence, introduced student presenters Zoe and Whitney, who said they built the toolkit after an increase in harassment reports last fall. The students described the toolkit as a virtual workshop and resource collection intended to inform peers about rights, identify what harassment looks like, explain how to seek support and make materials accessible to all learners.
Kiki Williams, executive director in the Office of Equity, said the district sent a December response outlining how to report incidents and how investigations proceed under the district's harassment policies, and that her office oversees the district's Title 9 compliance. Williams said the district is convening a student Title 9 advisory group of 10th–12th graders this semester to help translate legal language into student‑friendly materials and to review applications for that advisory group.
Site‑level staff described work with school leaders and care teams to develop shared vocabulary, advisory lessons, wellness days and student‑partnered resources. Williams said staff have documented a number of site‑level activities (cohort meetings, videos, lessons) intended to make reporting options and supports clearer to students.
The student presenters and Office of Equity officials emphasized continuing collaboration between students and district staff; the board thanked the students and said it would follow up on staff commitments. No formal board action was taken at this session on adoption of the toolkit; follow‑up was left to staff and the student advisory process.
Next steps: The district said it will continue to convene student advisors and work with site leaders to implement and refine materials; the board will receive follow‑up information as staff develop implementation plans.
