SFUSD board authorizes settlements and directs counsel in closed session

The San Francisco Unified School District board, after convening in closed session, reported a public readout in open session at 6:37 p.m. that the board had voted unanimously on several legal directions and settlement authorities.

President Bogus read the closed session summary: "In 1 matter of anticipated litigation, the board, by a vote of 7 yeses, gives direction to the general counsel." The board also reported votes authorizing the district to pay up to stipulated amounts in at least two matters: a federal case recorded as 319‑C v O8177 and Posey v. SFUSD (U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, case number 323‑CV‑02626‑JSC). Separately, the board authorized payment up to the stipulated amount in an OAH matter listed as student MW v. San Francisco Unified School District (OAH number 22023070158).

The readout did not specify settlement amounts or identify motions, movers or seconds for the closed-session actions. Board staff recorded the tally as seven yeses on each matter in the readout. The speaker indicated the board had given counsel authority to complete the settlements and to carry out the direction provided in closed session.

Because the matters were discussed in closed session, the public readout is limited to the actions taken (direction to counsel and authorization to pay up to stipulated amounts). The board directed general counsel and finance staff to process settlements consistent with the stipulations and to report back to the board when those payments are executed.
