Board adopts $7.5M A–G completion improvement plan to boost college eligibility

Staff presented the A–G completion improvement grant and expenditure plan and the board adopted it by roll call on April 26. The one‑time state funding—approximately $7.5 million—will be used over a four‑year period to increase the number of high‑school students who meet the A–G eligibility requirements for admission to California State University and University of California campuses.

Dr. Priestley explained the funding will primarily support direct services such as credit recovery and expanded access to postsecondary courses for unduplicated pupils (English learners, students eligible for free and reduced price meals, and foster youth). Several commissioners asked for clarity about metrics and reporting cadence; staff said they monitor off‑track student data (credits and grades) and will intervene to keep students on track for graduation.

Commissioners requested more detailed reporting that ties funding sources to outcomes and suggested presenting budget‑versus‑actuals and quarterly or annual progress reports to the Budget & Business Services committee. The board voted in favor of adopting the plan.
