Building Inspection Commission adopts AB 361 findings, convenes closed session for director appointment and declines disclosure

The San Francisco Building Inspection Commission on Wednesday adopted findings under Assembly Bill 361 allowing it to continue meeting remotely for the next 30 days and then convened a closed session to discuss the public-employee appointment of director of the Department of Building Inspection.

Vice President Tam moved to adopt the findings under California Government Code section 54953(e) consistent with Assembly Bill 361; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call with no recorded opposition. Vice President Tam also read a land acknowledgment at the start of the meeting, saying, "The building inspection commission acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Rheingmatoush Ohlone, who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula."

Agenda item 3 was a closed session to consider the appointment of the Department of Building Inspection director. The commission solicited public comment on the closed-session item and recorded that no members of the public spoke. The commission then voted to convene the closed session; the motion carried unanimously.

When the meeting reconvened in open session, the commission voted on whether to disclose any or all discussions held in closed session. Vice President Tam moved that the discussions remain nondisclosed; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Epler and approved by roll call. The record shows all votes in favor and that Commissioner Alexander (name spelling in the transcript varies) was excused from the vote.

The meeting was adjourned following that vote; the moderator recorded the time as 11:05 a.m.
