Building Inspection Commission adopts AB 361 findings to continue remote meetings

The San Francisco Building Inspection Commission voted unanimously on Jan. 7 to adopt findings under Assembly Bill 361 and California Government Code section 54953 that permit the commission to continue meeting remotely for the next 30 days.

The motion, presented as Item 2 on the agenda, would allow the Building Inspection Commission to rely on the modified Brown Act teleconferencing rules enacted by AB 361 to hold teleconference meetings while specified conditions exist. The meeting host read the item into the record as "findings to allow teleconference meetings under California Government Code section 54953" and the commission then moved and seconded the motion to meet remotely for 30 days.

Commissioners present voted in favor; the chair declared the motion carried unanimously. The commission followed the procedural steps set out in the agenda before proceeding into closed session business.

The action requires the commission to revisit and reaffirm the findings at subsequent meetings if conditions warrant continued teleconferencing under AB 361. No members of the public spoke on Item 2 during the public portion of the meeting.

The commission’s decision means public access to regular commission business will continue via the teleconference platform for at least the next month; the commission may revisit the findings at a future meeting as required by state law.
