DBI reports April inspections and code-enforcement figures; major-projects presentation to be upgraded

Deputy Director Joe Duffy gave the commission a detailed April report on inspections and code-enforcement outcomes on May 18, with the department performing 11,032 inspections across building, electrical and plumbing divisions and taking enforcement actions on housing cases.

"Our building inspection division performed 5,295 inspections. Electrical inspection division, 3,082 inspections. Plumbing inspection, 2,655. That was a total of 11,032 inspections for April for those 3 divisions," Duffy said. He added that housing inspection services performed 716 inspections, received 280 complaints and issued 117 notices of violation. For code enforcement, staff sent 111 cases to director's hearings, issued 40 orders of abatement and abated 195 cases in April.

Staff also briefed the commission on major projects (construction valuation above $5,000,000), reporting a 0.07 change in construction valuation and a 0.29% decrease in units coming online in April versus March; staff said a revised presentation with pictorial representations will come next month.

Commissioners did not take formal action on enforcement items at the meeting; staff said they were available to answer questions and will provide an updated major-projects presentation at the next meeting.
