Abatement Appeals Board unanimously elects Newman as president and Travis as vice president

The Abatement Appeals Board nominated and unanimously elected Commissioner Newman as president and Commissioner Travis as vice president during a procedural meeting in which staff clarified the board's bylaw requirement to hold annual officer elections.

Sarah Fabian of the City Attorney's Office advised the board that "the bylaw says that at its first regular meeting in February each year or the first meeting held thereafter the AAB shall elect a president and a vice president," explaining why the board was holding elections for the 2023 officers and noted a separate election will be required when the board meets in February for 2024 officers.

An unnamed commissioner first nominated Commissioner Newman for president; a motion to elect Newman was made and seconded and carried on a roll call vote with Commissioners Alexander Toot, Chavez, Newman, Shattucks, Summer and Williams recorded as voting yes. The board then nominated Commissioner Travis for vice president. That motion was also moved, seconded and carried on a unanimous roll call vote.

The board announced its next regular meeting will be held January 17 at 9:30 a.m. There were no public comments during the general public-comment period. The meeting adjourned at 11:00 a.m.

The actions recorded in the meeting minutes are procedural officer elections; no policy decisions or regulatory items were considered in this session.
