San Francisco — The Fire Commission unanimously approved an addendum on Jan. 11 to the existing five-year memorandum of understanding between the San Francisco Fire Department and City College of San Francisco to expand training options for current field personnel.
What changed: The original 2019 agreement enrolled recruits in a City College class tied to the Basic Fire Academy; the addendum expands the partnership to include company officer training and additional state fire training elements that will be offered to graduated recruits and field personnel. The department will continue to pay registration and partner with City College on curriculum and revenue-sharing related to training hours.
Public comment: Jim Connors, retired SFFD captain and department chair of administration of justice and fire science at City College, spoke in favor of the expansion and described coordination with City College leadership and SFFD training staff.
Vote: Vice President Steven Acasio moved to approve the addendum; the motion was seconded and adopted unanimously.
Next steps: Training staff will coordinate delivery of the company officer series at SFFD training facilities and work with City College to enroll employees for college credit and certificates.
