Director Corso presented Resolution 2023-06 to the commission on Oct. 25 requesting acceptance of donated alarms for the department’s fire-prevention division. He said the donation totals approximately $62,857.50 and comprises over 1,800 smoke detectors and more than 500 carbon monoxide detectors, which the department plans to distribute at community events and target to underserved and elderly populations.
"These are given out at various community and safety events throughout the year. They're targeted for underserved communities and elderly populations," Director Corso said, and he thanked the donor organization for the contribution. Commissioners asked practical questions about installation and battery replacement; Corso said the department facilitates the donation and partners with community organizations, including the Red Cross, for installation support.
Commissioner Marcy Frasier moved to accept the resolution; Commissioner Catherine Feinstein seconded, and the commission voted unanimously to accept the donation.
What’s next: the department will coordinate distribution and partner with community groups to ensure installations and follow-up supports for recipients.
