The San Francisco Commission on the Environment completed routine business and several ceremonial and personnel actions during its virtual meeting.
The commission approved a resolution making the findings necessary to continue teleconference meetings under California Government Code section 54953(e). The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Commissioner Sullivan and seconded by Commissioner Wald; a roll-call vote was recorded and the motion passed. The commission also approved the draft minutes of the Sept. 28, 2021 meeting after a motion and second and a recorded roll-call vote.
As part of the meeting's presentations, the commission presented an Environmental Service Award to Julia of Cole Hardware for long-running partnership with the department on programs such as household hazardous waste retail collection, battery and paint take-back, and the Our Water, Our World pesticide‑reduction program. Several commissioners and department staff praised Cole Hardware's participation in the green business certification program.
Following a closed session to consider the executive director's performance, the commission voted to recommend an increase to Director Deborah Raffel's compensation to the Department of Human Resources. A public commenter asked for legal clarification about the authority and disclosure rules governing changes to department head pay; commissioners said they would follow up with appropriate city counsel or DHR staff to provide details after the meeting.
Provenance: Procedural motions, public comment, and votes (Items 2, 4, 6, 14 and 16).
