Commissioner Wald presented an Environmental Service Award to Chris Geiger, recognizing his nearly two decades of work as the Department's integrated pest management (IPM) program manager.
Wald praised Geiger for leading efforts to reduce hazardous pesticide use and develop science‑based purchasing and pest‑prevention approaches. "Under his leadership, San Francisco reduced its use of the most toxic and hazardous pesticides by 97% from 2010 to 2021," Wald said during the presentation. Department staff and several public commenters also offered testimonials on Geiger's influence in creating safer maintenance practices in public housing, parks and other city properties. Geiger thanked colleagues and noted it has been an "honor" to serve the city.
The Commission paused the agenda for a portrait and reserved time for additional public testimony at the end of the item.
