The Entertainment Commission granted a renewal of the SF Eagle Bar’s amplified sound permit for Eagle Plaza, a historic gathering place for leather and LGBTQ communities, following oral testimony and staff recommendations.
Owner Lex Montiel and staff said the activation will support community gatherings, food service and modest ambient amplified sound rather than daily large events. Staff recommended a daily window allowing up to six hours of amplified sound between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. with up to four special event days per month (up to eight hours and a higher sound limit set by staff). SFPD asked for event calendars for gatherings expected to exceed 500 attendees and monthly calendars for planning.
Neighbors submitted five written objections; staff noted one incorrect outreach letter had been corrected by the applicant. The applicants emphasized community stewardship of the plaza and adherence to the good neighbor policy. Commissioners approved the staff conditions and asked the permit holder to notify neighbors via a monthly calendar and to provide the commission and SFPD with advance notice of special event dates.
What happens next: the permit is approved subject to monthly calendar submissions and the good neighbor policy; staff will set and monitor any special event sound limits.
