Votes at a glance: Commission approves minutes and three permit actions; consent item passed

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission took several formal actions during its April meeting.

Minutes: Commissioners voted to approve the minutes from the March 21, 2023 hearing with a roll-call that recorded 'aye' votes from the commissioners present.

Consent item: The Commission approved a limited live performance permit on the consent calendar for Rogues (540 Clement St.). Staff reported an internal sound limit was set, there was no opposition and SFPD recommended no added conditions.

Chambers Eat and Drink (601 Eddy St.): The Commission approved a place-of-entertainment permit amendment to formalize longstanding outdoor events and allow outdoor amplified sound between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m., not to exceed six hours per day. Staff said it will set a definitive A- and C-weighted sound limit under MPC 10.60.16 once the venue begins its next series of outdoor programming. Owner Isabelle Manchester described 12 years of courtyard programming, outreach to neighbors and on-site sound technicians; staff file included a neighbor letter requesting stricter limits (two weekend events per month and a 6 p.m. Sunday end time).

Music City Hotel (1353 Bush St.): The Commission approved a POE permit for a multi-use music facility that includes rehearsal studios (23 studios), karaoke rooms and a new music venue. Applicants April Lacey and Alvi/Alvy Adams described community outreach and venue capacities (main room ~153; additional rooms 35–60). Commissioners asked about karaoke-room door windows (applicants confirmed), hiring local staff and training on overdose recognition and response.

Each permit approval was moved and seconded, public comment was taken or noted as none, and the Commission recorded roll-call votes in favor of the staff-recommended conditions.
