SF Jazz granted one-time extended outdoor permit for May gala

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission unanimously approved a one-time outdoor event permit on April 18 that allows SF Jazz to host amplified live music and a DJ in the parking lot at 110 Franklin Street for its tenth-anniversary gala on May 4.

Senior analyst Dylan Rice told commissioners that the event includes a dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., a student jazz ensemble performing ambient music during dinner, and a short after-party with a DJ between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Rice said the parking-lot event would exceed the commission’s usual 10 p.m. outdoor entertainment precedent for that site, which is why SF Jazz was on the regular agenda; staff reported neighborhood outreach and no opposition.

Audrey Joseph, speaking for SF Jazz, described the sound system (two downward-facing speakers hung from tent rafters and a small powered speaker system) and estimated attendance of approximately 275 people in the tent for the evening’s program. She said SF Jazz uses RSVP and described event logistics; staff recommended approval with the conditions listed in the staff memo. The commission moved, seconded and voted to approve the permit.

Staff said inspectors will monitor noise during the event and that approval is contingent on meeting the conditions set out in the staff recommendation.
